Although on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn you want to connect with people who are interested in what you have to offer and people from whom you can learn, Twitter requires a different strategy than on Facebook or LinkedIn.

But on Facebook and LinkedIn you extend an invitation to people and you wait to see if they accept your invitation. On Twitter anyone can follow anyone without an invitation – in fact, this is part of Twitter’s power.

Thus your aim is to get followers on Twitter who are on the “spine of your story.” That’s my expression – borrowed from good writing practices – that means followers who are interested in what you are about rather than random followers in areas of no interest to you.

FYI – Of course you can get followers in additional areas connected to a hobby or additional interests. But right now we’re talking about getting followers on Twitter who are on the spine of your story for your business or career.

First step, do not tweet about things such as what you had for dinner (unless you are a chef, a restaurant critic, or the like). Choose your tweets to get followers on Twitter who are interested in your subjects.

Let’s say you are a clothing manufacturer who imports cloth from China and then sells your men’s shirts on the Internet. You might want to get followers who have brick-and-mortar clothing stores and could carry your men’s shirts. Or you might want to get followers who have their own online stores and could carry your men’s shirts.

(Remember, in the Internet world competition works differently than in the real world. There is now a global market for your shirts, and other websites selling your shirts can expand your sales opportunities.)

You start tweeting about a variety of related subjects, such as Chinese export laws, U.S. import laws, problems of helping customers buy the correct size shirt online, delivery options, and sales tax concerns for Internet purchases.

Does this mean you have to know about all these subjects? Not necessarily. It means that in your tweets you have to share links to news articles and blog posts on these subjects. (You are interested in these topics yourself, remember?)

How does this get followers on Twitter for you?

Other people who want to engage in conversations about these subjects will do a search for these terms either through the Twitter search function or through third-party applications such as tweetbeep.com. When these people find your tweets, they will probably click on your username to read your Twitter profile.

If your Twitter profile supports this same interest, they will probably follow you, especially since all this requires is a click on the FOLLOW button.

Now to help people find you even easier there’s an added step. You can use a # (called hashtag) before a term that people are likely to search for. Perhaps you’ll write a tweet that says:

Just read an insightful blog post on U.S. #import issues – [blogpostpermalink - probably using a URL shortener such as tinyurl.com]

Now when others search on #import, your tweet can more easily be found by the Twitter search functions.

Of course, this technique works both ways. You can search on your subjects of interest to find people who tweet on these topics. Then you can check out their profiles and consider whether to follow them. If you do follow a person, there’s a good chance that person will follow you back.

One other important tip for getting followers on Twitter: Take part in tweetchats that are connected to your topics of interest. A tweetchat is a real-time conversation on a specific subject. For example, #smallbizchat takes place on Wednesdays from 8 to 9 p.m. Eastern U.S. time.

By participating in and adding value to these targeted conversations, you can get in front of potential followers who are interested in what you are interested in. If your tweets during the tweetchat have been helpful, you will probably find that you get followers on Twitter immediately after the tweetchat.

Remember, the most important rule for getting followers on Twitter is to share information (on the spine of your story) that other people find valuable.

Twitter is all the rage these days. And no doubt, it is a powerful tool in growing your online business. I recently read that having Twitter followers is like having a sub-list. Definitely, “the money is in the list,” which says a lot about the value of Twitter. And makes it important to think about how you use Twitter and what kind of people you follow on Twitter.

Until very recently, I didn’t reach out and follow people on Twitter at all. I just followed people I knew. Then I got introduced to Mr. Tweet, and “he” recommended some great people to me. Now I’m consistently finding great new people to follow.

I basically follow four types of people on Twitter. First, there are those whose posts always make me smile. I like these people, even though I don’t know them outside of Twitter.

Second are those whose posts always give me something valuable or interesting. Usually they link to a blog post or news article.

The third type of person I follow is those who seem to run entire businesses on Twitter. They communicate with everyone. They tweet so often there’s no way they could have time to run a business outside their Twitter connections.

And finally, there are those who do nothing but market their products. I have no sense of their personality. They post nothing but sales links and make claims that if I click I can make $1000 this week. This type always follows me first, and I follow them back to make sure I’m never like them.

I’ve never thought about what type of a “followee” I am, or what impression my Twitter “friends” have of me. I just tweet what I’m thinking about, questions I have, stories that catch my interest, and an occasional plug to ask people to consider joining my list. I automatically tweet my blog posts and Ezine Articles.

As I’ve started thinking about how I use Twitter, I realize that I don’t use it very effectively to grow my business because I have no “Twitter strategy.” But I also realize that if I did use Twitter more effectively, not only would my business benefit, but my personal growth would too.

Think about the purpose of Twitter for internet marketers. You try to show your followers that you are intelligent, interesting, and have something of value to share. You want to earn their trust so they will do business with you. This is not to say that Twitter doesn’t have dual purposes. I follow a lot people because I have an interest in purchasing from them, not selling to them.

But, I digress. Let’s assume your main purpose is to develop relationships that will make you money. You are trying to be the best person you can be. You are putting your best foot forward. Trying to be helpful, positive and uplifting. Trying to add value to people’s lives.

And, when you add value to others, don’t you necessarily add value to your own life? Even in the worst of times, it’s helpful to repeat positive affirmations, to sing a happy song, to put a smile on your face. Because your subconscious mind doesn’t know the difference. It knows only what you tell it. That’s why we become what we think about most of the time.

So, if we are being the best we can be, if we are portraying the person we want to become, aren’t we affirming and strengthening our best character traits? Isn’t that self improvement? On top of our own efforts, we’re reading a Twitter stream full of people also trying to do and be their best. What an awesomely positive environment! It’s like free therapy.

I don’t know if it works this way for everyone. But I know my Twitter stream consists of all types of people doing and saying positive things. No one’s doubting my decision to become a “full time” online marketer. No one’s talking about how hard and depressing the recession is. All of the things I despise about the outside world aren’t in my Twitter stream. Wow, I follow great people.

You should devote at least 30 minutes a day to your personal growth. And, no, your tweeting doesn’t count. Putting some thought into your Twitter strategy, however, and being a genuine, real person when you tweet, is totally congruent with a plan for self improvement. So, in thinking about your Twitter strategy, both your online business and your personal life will benefit from considering how your self-improvement fits into that strategy. Happy tweeting!

Chances are good that by now most people have heard about Twitter. Whether from professional athletes and celebrities in magazines or on your local evening newscast, it is difficult to escape the phenomenon. Perhaps what has made Twitter so popular is its simplicity; Twitter requires far less effort than other social networking options, such as MySpace or Facebook. Whatever the reason, Twitter is currently being used by more than 1 million people every day to connect, socialize and stay informed. For those who aren’t familiar, Twitter is an online social network that allows users to connect with friends, family and people with similar interests around the world. New users simply select a username or “handle” and provide a few pieces of information about themselves. From here, users simply provide short status updates in 140 characters or less (that’s usually about 20-30 words). What is the purpose of these updates (or “tweets”)? It can be anything, really. From updates about a cool book or movie to making a note about a traffic accident or linking to a cool piece of news or information, people use their 140 characters to keep their followers informed or just to speak their minds. The next step is the actual connecting. With Twitter, users can choose to “follow” other users if they know each other or if they are simply interested in what that user has to say. When a user logs into his or her Twitter account, the updates for all of the users that they follow are displayed, in real time. Conversely, anyone who follows you will see all of your “tweets” streamed in real time along with the other members of their network. And that’s Twitter in a nutshell. It all seems simple (which it is) and you might be wondering how 140 characters could possibly be useful for business. The answer to that question is almost as simple as Twitter itself. Everyone knows that networking and connections build business. However, those who view Twitter as just another social Web site, which creates business opportunities through networking, are missing the point. Yes, Twitter can provide a great, fast way to make connections and network (and yes, this is good business). Yet, the biggest benefits that Twitter can provide from a business perspective are far more interesting and useful than simple networking opportunities. To truly understand Twitter’s potential for creating business opportunities, it is important to look at Twitter as a platform — a platform for business, a platform for ideas, a platform for learning, etc. Just as Twitter is not merely a networking tool, it is also not a magical marketing machine that can grow businesses without any effort or creativity. But when put in the proper perspective, Twitter can provide a great resource for any business. For example, let’s look at Twitter through the “business intelligence” lens. What better place to gather information about your customers than a collection of more than 1 million people who are speaking freely on topics of their choosing? Search applications allow you to scan through the millions upon millions of Tweets in order to find pertinent information. Try searching a product or service in your business area and look at all of the free marketing information the search returns. In the same vein, imagine the information you can gather on the competition. Twitter allows you to keep a close eye on your competitors and even see how customers are reacting to their products or services. A little research can provide you with not only a company’s branded Twitter account, but the accounts of individual employees — all the way down to a summer intern. Maybe you haven’t been using Twitter because you are afraid that your marketing or promotional efforts will be transparent and no one will want to follow your updates. Maybe you just can’t think of anything to say. Well, consider the fact that all of the possibilities that have been mentioned thus far do not require any interaction at all. They are simply examples of the free information that Twitter provides. This information can be acquired by simply watching and monitoring. Of course, it is very possible to interact on Twitter without driving a promotion or touting a link for people to visit. For example, let’s assume you are looking for a way to improve your company’s customer service. And let’s also assume you have just released a new product. Search your company’s name and the name of the product on Twitter. You will find all instances where customers are talking about your new product: the good and the bad. Using this information, you can have your company’s representatives send a direct message to the individual customers who are not having positive experiences. This can be short and sweet: “I am a representative from XYZ Co. and heard you are having problems with our latest widget. How can I help?” Not only will your customers be happy for the assistance, they will really appreciate the direct contact. Think about it. How excited would you be, for example, if your phone stopped working and your carrier contacted you with instructions on how to fix it? Or if you noticed a discrepancy on a bill and instead of having to call the company to complain, they called you to help? The best part is that these examples are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the possibilities that Twitter provides for generating real, attainable business outcomes.

Writing about the top best practices for Twitter is fraught with danger because everyone has his/her own list. Thus with trepidation I will attempt to provide you with what I believe are the most important best practices:

#1 Best Practice:

Share valuable information of yours and others with links to this information. This can be blog posts, news articles, website pages, news photos, whatever is appropriate.

#2 Best Practice:

Retweet worthwhile information tweeted by others and include links to this information. This is a great best practice as long as this is not the only thing you do on Twitter. (Some people do only retweet other people’s information without ever engaging in conversations.)

#3 Best Practice:

Engage in conversations – use tweetbeep.com or other applications to know when people are tweeting about topics of interest to you and then participate in the conversation. This includes answering questions when you can do so. (For example, where’s a good fish restaurant in West Los Angeles? Or where can I find odd-size men’s shoes online?)

#4 Best Practice:

Do NOT make your tweets all about you. If you are sharing valuable free information, that’s one thing. But if you are promoting your own products and services all the time you will get a reputation that you do not want. (You will also get an undesirable reputation if you constantly tweet trivial information such as when you are going to sleep.)

Good sense is the motto for Twitter best practices:

The important element in any best practices list is using good sense. Put yourself in the other person’s shoes and consider what you like to see in tweets and what you don’t like to see.

Here’s a slightly edited email I received:

“I quit Twitter. To be frank, I hated it. Too many strangers wanting to be my friend. Much too much small talk. I just don’t have that kind of time … I simply can’t muster up the interest required in knowing that Bob just returned from his kitchen with a bologna sandwich.”

See what I mean? Judge your tweets by what you’d like to receive.

Just make sure you are one of those people sharing valuable information!

FYI – One additional point to consider: Who you retweet can also be important. Even if you think a particular tweet is valuable, consider who it is from who will then be mentioned by username in your retweet.

If that person’s tweets are usually not valuable and therefore that person’s overall Twitter reputation is probably not that good, perhaps you shouldn’t retweet that person. You want to retweet from effective Twitter participants the valuable information they share.

Heck, until recently I didn’t really understand the true power of Twitter so I figure this would be a good place to clear it all up.

For the purpose of this article let’s take a quick look at the Internet landscape and compare it to something we can all relate to … The city you live in right now.

Think about the parts of town where you go to find things to buy, whether it be a mall, a strip mall, or even the market where companies and individuals are all set up to sell their goods.

Is this really any different than the online stores which exist all over the Internet? I don’t think so.

How about the plethora of newspapers you have to choose from. The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, USA Today, National Enquirer or even your local newspaper.

There are a minimum of 100 online news sites to every single newspaper that exists offline … and in most cases you can access this news for free without trudging across your front lawn to retrieve your paper from the bushes. :)

What if you are looking to visit the “wrong side of the tracks” in your city…

Well you can find that online as well with the porn sites and other undesirable stuff online.

I’m sure you can see the parallels with all these on and offline comparisons, and you are probably still wondering, “Where does Twitter fit in?”

People who sign up for Twitter typically use their 140 character allotment to tell the world what they are doing and in some cases use a link that points to more detailed information. As I mentioned in my previous article, “Confessions of a REFORMED Twitter Spammer” I began using Twitter the wrong way simply because I didn’t understand it.

Since those dark times I woke up when I heard an excellent offline comparison. In that comparison I heard Twitter compared to a cocktail party.

Think back to that familiar time when you arrived at a networking cocktail party and watched that annoying salesperson bounce around from person to person filling everyone in on what they do and what type of business they are looking for, and after cramming their business card in each person’s hand, they leave and go on to the next person.

Most of the time this entire conversation lasts less than 15 seconds and they don’t even take the time to ask the person what they do, or even their name.

Would you ever contact this person? I didn’t think so!

I was that person in the early days with my Twitter use.

I thought it was a tool for me to repeat the information I wanted to spread over and over so my prospective target would be sure to get the message.

Since I didn’t GET IT, I didn’t realize I was annoying people andgiving them every reason to ignore me.

Heck, who wants to be pestered over and over with the same message?

I believe the best way to use Twitter is to provide valuable information for the people you would like to reach. Make sure when someone arrives at your Twitter profile page, they find relevant, useful information with links to more complete information.

You should give Twitter the same time and attention you do the content of your website … unless you don’t pay much attention to that either.

There are many other ways you can use Twitter for your business beside providing “content based” information. Stay tuned this week for more real life examples of how to use Twitter for Your business.

Pete Brand is a businessman.

He created a successful distribution business throughout the United States, which grew to a network of 2,500 sales people, under his supervision. He also acquired substantial sales and marketing experience with a local telecom company, and helped them to become the number one distributor of the product they marketed.

He was introduced to the Internet in 1998 and was fascinated at the possibilities. Although he didn’t know how to design or program a website, he saw the incredible opportunities the Internet presented in reaching people around the world quickly and efficiently. This motivated Pete to start a website development company which has since helped hundreds of companies around the world create well over $100,000,000 in online revenue.

Pete has a passion for Internet marketing and teaching individuals and companies the exact ingredients required for starting and running a successful online business. His expertise covers both “business to business” and “business to consumer” areas of online marketing.
swarovski rhinestones

The three main keys to an effective Twitter strategy are transparency, engaging conversation, and sharing information. If you do all these three, you will be in a great position for people to know, like, and trust you. And people buy from people they trust.

Before you start using Twitter for promoting your book, you need to do several things.

Transparency – setting up your Twitter profile correctly

To be taken seriously rather than as a spammer on Twitter you have to correctly fill out your profile. Your real name goes in the NAME line in your account settings. For example, if your name is Claudia Windward and your username is cwindward – Claudia Windward goes in the name line.

This is the transparency – you are on Twitter as a person even if you are representing a company. If this person’s username was AjaxCompany, her name in her profile should still be Claudia Windward. Your Twitter username answers the question of who’s behind the veil.

In the profile URL field, put your website. If you do not have a website, put the link to your Facebook or LinkedIn profile.

Because you have so few characters available (160 maximum), you have to carefully decide how you want to portray yourself. And a random piece of information might cause someone to connect with you. Dog lover? And the good news is that it’s very easy to change your bio whenever you want.

Do include a location. Perhaps because Twitter is global, people like to know where you are. Someone might engage in conversation with you just because of where you are located.

And choose a clear headshot for your profile photo. People want to see what you look like – see your face clearly – in order to have a more personal connection. And, yes, some people use little icons for their profile photos. In some cases these icons make sense; in others they don’t.

Yet if you really want to effectively use Twitter, choose a clear headshot photo that you use in other social media so that people can quickly recognize you.

Engaging in conversation – whom do you want to “meet” on Twitter

Let’s say you’re interested in promoting a fiction or nonfiction book. What is the subject area of the book? You should use tweetbeep.com (like Google alerts for Twitter) to track conversations related to book marketing and to the topic of your nonfiction book or something about your fiction book.

When you get a tweetbeep alert, make sure you’re signed into Twitter. Then click on the usernames provided by the alert. If the people sound interesting, follow them. If appropriate, engage in conversation with them BUT don’t push your book. You can mention your book but don’t push it.

Sharing information – provide valuable content and learn from other people’s valuable content

Share information (not necessarily your own) in your tweets. If you read a terrific blog post about book marketing, share the link in a tweet. Of course, share info that’s connected to the “spine” of your Twitter presence along with info that makes you interesting as a person. For example, if you’re a publisher, share publishing news. And also tweet about a great movie you just saw.

If someone else shares a link to a valuable blog article or website, send a public reply thanking the person and include in this tweet the original link.

So you finally signed up for Twitter because everything you read says that Twitter is the new gold mine, you have to use it. Now you have a twitter account, can you condense your stories, memories, or pearls of wisdom down to 140 characters? Honestly I wish most people I meet were able to do that.Twitter ettiquette says that you should follow people who follow you. With that in mind, the reasonable things to do would be to run out and start following people with the expectation that they are going to return the favor. Maybe they will, but in most cases – if they do, who really cares? Just because someone is following you does not mean that you are on their radar.I am still having a really hard time coming to terms that Twitter is an effective marketing tool for ‘everyone’. I can see in certain circumstances where a direct line to someones ear would be a good thing, but you need to be realistic about yourself. Are you interesting? Do people tend to ask questions when you tell a story or do they just glaze over?If you listen to the internet marketing gurus like Perry Belcher, you can create a million dollar empire overnight with a Twitter account and an internet connection at Starbucks. What Perry doesn’t make a big of is that he has a list of millions of people, so when he sends out an email telling people to follow him on Twitter, they will. They would probably cut their thumbs off if he said it was going to be an ‘over night cash machine’. I’m rambling.I don’t know enough about Twitter to tell you how to use it effectively for business, which is actually a good thing. Because even without knowing much about it, I do know how to get followers and I will share it with you. Here it is. Tweet. I have set up my content hub to automatically post to Twitter whenever I make a blog post. I haven’t been posting about Twitter, I haven’t really even posted anything that interesting, but every time I do post, my Twitter account is notified and a link to my post is sent out. Every time I do this, I pick up 5 followers almost immediately. My last couple posts have been about affiliate marketing and about my love affair with SENuke, nothing special. It’s clear that the Twittersphere is full of marketers who are searching for keywords and automatically following the author. What does this mean? Nothing. They are following me in hopes that I will return the favor and follow them, and I do, but they aren’t reading what I am writing. They are just taking a gamble that I am going to read what they are Tweeting about and that I will visit their site and buy their product, and I won’t. I don’t read other peoples tweets and in most cases people don’t read mine. Essentially what you have is a giant room filled with people, all talking at once, to no one. Occasionally there will be someone interesting but in general I find that the only people I actually pay attention to are people who I have actively gone looking for. Courtney Love is a good example, her Twitter account is like watching a car crash in slow motion. Its interesting in a really morbid way.Twitter, to me, is the obvious electronic culmination of our innate narcissism. We are our own biggest fans. But Twitter is also necessary. Twitter is the beginning of true real time search, the new breed of search engines are pulling data in real time and using it to determine search importance. Spammers are already figuring out how to game it like we used to game lycos in the late 90′s. Twitter is a place that you need to be, even if you don’t know why. Again, rambling. So now you’re sitting in front of your Twitter acccount, feeling obliged to write something but don’t know what to Tweet about. Let me give you a few very basic pointers to get you on your way. And as simple as these seem, people are charging for this information.1. Customize your profile. Make sure you at the very least add a picture of yourself. Fill out your profile, be compelling, be interesting. Don’t be overly salesy2. Don’t pollute your tweets with a bunch of garbage, if you do happen to make a Tweet thats interesting, people will see the rest of your tweets about your cat and they won’t follow you. Keep in mind that the people who do actually read what other people are tweeting about are following hundreds, maybe thousands of people, they don’t have time to sift through garbage.3. Check out some of the applications like Tweetdeck for following your favorite people4. Make sure that you include keywords in your tweets that pertain to your business. Those are going to be what put your Tweets up on people radar.5. Make sure before you follow someone that is following you that you check out their follow vs followers, if they are following 50,000 people and have 100 followers, it’s a spammer.6. If the profile of the person following you has a picture of a girl in a bikini – block them, it’s spam. Think about it.7. Do not try to sell you services in 140 characters. EVER. Twitter is about news and opinions, don’t even try to recommend your own product anonymously – it won’t work. Use Twitter to show you are an intelligent, insightful person, that cares about improving the lives of other people.8. Be funny. Legitimately. If you’re not funny then don’t try to be, but if you are witty, try to include it in your posts.9. Be relevant. A good way to attract followers is to Tweet about things that are in the news RIGHT NOW.10. Be open and honest. The one thing I do like about Twitter is that it mimics life and the thought process really well. Remember that first impressions mean everything. When you meet someone you can usually tell if you like them in a 140 characters or less right? It’s the same online.10.5 ( I really want a clean 10 things list but this just popped into my head) don’t have someone else Tweet for you. It’s OK to have someone represent your business, but not you.I hope you got something out of this post. I actually didn’t write it for you, I really wrote it to get more followers on Twitter. I think I mentioned the keywords that I wanted enough times. This should be good for another 5 or 10 followers who are never going to read what I have to say, and I plan to return the favor.

Twitter is a communications platform that helps businesses and their customers to do a number of useful things. As a business, you can use it to quickly share information with people interested in your company, gather real-time marketing intelligence and feedback, and build relationships with customers, partners, and other people who care about your company. As an individual user, you can use Twitter to tell a company (or anyone else) that you’ve had a great–or disappointing–experience with their business, offer product ideas, and learn about great offers.

To get a sense of what Twitter can do for your business, listen in on some of the conversations that are happening right now (you can use Twitter search whether or not you have an account). Listening will help you to learn what people are saying about your company, and it will also give you a sense of the flow of conversations on Twitter. It can also give you insight into how other companies handle Twitter exchanges.

Everywhere you look nowadays you read or hear about people using Twitter. But what are they using Twitter for?

Here are only a few of the purposes for which Twitter can be used:

- Twitter as a replacement for email.

This is because Twitter is faster than email (no need to open an email to read the message) and the tweets are much shorter messages (Twitter’s character limit is 140; does email even have a limit?).

- Twitter as an automatic news filter.

You follow people in your fields of interest and, when they tweet a link of an article that sounds interesting, you can click through and quickly decide if the articles if for you. It’s true that I have Google Reader, but I don’t have time to look at all those blog posts. I’m happy that the people I follow on Twitter do the screening for me.

- Twitter as an up-to-the-second news source.

Twitter users beat the news channels about the plane landing safely in the Hudson River in New York and provided instant updates during the Mumbai crisis, to name two examples of Twitter’s instant update capabilities.

- Twitter as a free press release service.

If you have a legitimate product, service, new article, new blog post to announce, go ahead and do so with the link to the product/service/article/blogpost. Your Twitter followers are expecting you to share valuable information with them.

- Twitter as a networking tool

Using Twitter’s search options and third-party applications, you can find like-minded people with whom to connect. This can be for a multitude of purposes.

- Twitter as a JV (joint venture) partner

Because of the ease of finding people in your same or related niche, you can connect with possible joint venture partners.

- Twitter as a branding tool

If done correctly, Twitter can be a terrific social media platform on which to establish your brand. You can then feed your Twitter updates into other social media platforms to extend your brand across cyberspace.

Of course, when you start on Twitter there is a great deal to be learned. In fact, you never stop learning about the possibilities if you realize the power of Twitter. I continue to read every report, etc. on Twitter that I can – there’s always new information, new ideas, new uses that I learn about.

When you have an open mindset, how to use Twitter 101 can cover so many exciting opportunities. First, of course, you have to share valuable information on Twitter so that people know, like and trust you. Then you may be amazed at the productive uses to which you’ll be able to put Twitter.

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author’s profile page and delivered to the followers. That’s why information on Twitter is short, to the point and effective. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow open access. You can access Twitter via Web, Desktop Applications and even SMS. While the service costs nothing to use, accessing it through SMS may incur phone service provider fees.

I started using tweeter some time ago. Surprisingly after few days of posting some tweets it started getting indexed in Google. While Google continues to dominate the world of “search”, it has a long way to go in offering real-time search capabilities.

Twitter is a powerful communication platform providing social networkers the opportunity to post updates in real-real time. The growth of twitter has been so phenomenal that Google also started paying attention and it is indexing Tweets. Many Twitter pages and individual tweets can be seen on the first page of Google.

Then I started learning more about it. Rather than using it just as a social networking platform, if used properly, it can benifit you in so many ways including by boosting your personal brand and enhancing website traffic. I want to list down some of the methods by which Twitter can benefit us:

In short, Twitter allows you to monitor how influencers think or feel, you can also get into their attention zone via active networking. For businesses, Twitter is another channel which connects current and potential customers with your product or brand. It allows deeply infiltration into the lifestyles of interested participants, which helps to build brand persistence/loyalty. So twitter can be used a tool to achieve simple aim of tracking and directing attention from various groups of your interest and in turn drive business.
